“I am thoroughly amused meeting people who can concoct the most potent version of themselves on a profile – the masquerade of a wild or profound personality behind the monitor… but can barely speak up or prove a point to be quite the party-girl during an in-person encounter. Interesting tools online… truth of the matter is that it creates the ultimate, dazzling facade. That’s why I never cared much for social aspects of the internet. It is amazing how much it has contributed to the nuisances and rudeness of modern-day society. Do you really ever know what to take seriously? It almost becomes an art, figuring out what to NOT believe. Everything posted becomes anyone's property. What’s even more tragic is how commonplace it has become, to now depend on what used to only be the ‘information freeway’ as a primary source of acceptance, friendship, dating and moral support through multiple photos, blogs and the like. Its pettiness may be comforting to some. I’m old school. I’d rather see a girl laugh or cry or fight because of something I said to her face rather than something I typed up in an animated pop-up box. Its meaning is worthless until noted from the unbeatable effect of the eyes, the voice, the posture... because the body never lies. But I guess you don’t worry about integrity, this is the internet – anything goes.” |
